Thomas Junker on the road – Places of longing
Thomas Junker is a passionate collector of stories who has captured the small and large events of this world in over 40 MDR films. In his new major live lecture, “Thomas Junker on the road – Places of longing,” he now takes his audience to places that are dream destinations and places close to his heart: magical regions that touch the soul, places of promise – and places that burn themselves deep into our hearts and awaken a quiet longing.
Be part of a special evening and get to know Thomas Junker personally. Travel with him to Aitutaki (Cook Islands) to what is probably the most beautiful lagoon in the world, to a completely secluded village in Laos, to the dream lodge Boulders in the Namibian desert.
Join Junker on a visit to Tokyo's old, historic fish market and Tristan da Cunha, arguably the most remote and hardest to reach island in the world. Only 250 people live there, who consider their isolation their personal paradise despite great hardship.
The filmmaker also shows the floating gardens on Inle Lake and the Shwedagon Pagoda in Myanmar. Two places that have been inaccessible to visitors for many years due to civil war.
In all these and many other “places of longing” – such as Varanasi or Rapa Nui (Easter Island) – the focus is always on the everyday lives of the people.
And Thomas Junker will also share some insider information. He talks about what you don't get to see on television: about working with MDR, about what really happens behind the scenes on trips and expeditions – and what it's like when everything suddenly turns out differently than planned during a television production.
