I set off on an incredible journey by bike, hitchhiking and boat. I cross the Middle Kingdom over 6,500 km from the mouth of the Yangtze near Shanghai to the highlands of Tibet. I see the country and the people up close, experience overwhelming hospitality but at the same time the journey is about to fail: snowstorms and bureaucracy almost prevent me from reaching my destination, the source of the Yangtze.
